this is an oil painting i did in the zorn palette: http://gurneyjourney.blogspot.com/2011/07/zorn-palette.html
I have learned to embrace a very limited palette as I am happiest with the paintings I get from using a smaller selection of colors.

My submission for a Warcraft Trading Card entitled Last Desperate Act; a summary is a Draenei priestess calling down righteous magic on a Flesh Giant. Jon Foster was super awesome in giving me lots of constructive, critical feedback on this!

This was a two person project for Last II Standing at ConceptArt.org 's Thunderdome. My partner on this was my classmate Paul Temple. The theme for the contest was a beauty/nightmare dyptic. We largely worked in Corel Painter XI/XII and some Photoshop CS5 painting as well.
Make sure to head on over to conceptart.org and check out more of the dyptics done by friends, classmates, and others at http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=221841

I have been studying vultures for a bigger piece; who knew there were so many species of carrion eating vultures. They are really interesting and creepy looking birds. No wonder they often inspire the design of bad guys (mr. burns?)

One of the great things about where I work (besides getting paid every other week consistently) is the access to experts and professionals and places in a very creative industry. It allows for some wonderful experiences in learning. I have been able to visit Pixar about three times this year I think and this Easter Sunday had a presentation with David Levy, a Sr. Concept Artist who worked on Tron Legacy (we also both happen to be game industry veterans from Acclaim Studios). You have to commend a talented person that shares his knowledge and gives up his time on an Easter Sunday (it was a last minute change from Saturday to Sunday due to water main fixes in Emeryville)
David Levy's website is at: http://www.vyle-art.com/
and his blog is here: http://vyle-art.blogspot.com/
and his teaser for his film Plug: http://www.steambotstudios.com/plug/
I highly recommend taking a look at his work and visual style!

with the crash of a hard drive (and fortunately not a full loss as there were backups of most things) I felt it was time to start a new blog about all things concept art related. Here I can post my images, research, notes and other stuff related to my interest in entertainment concept art.
remember....back up often!
